Beneh Abraham Synagogue is on the campus of Shawnee State University inside The Jacobs Center, which is across from the tennis courts on Second Street. We are the third oldest Jewish Congregation in Ohio, incorporated in 1858. Beneh Abraham first began as an Orthodox synagogue and later developed into the Reform synagogue of today. Our Rabbi, Susan Stone travels from Cleveland once a month for Shabbat Services and also for our special High Holy Day Services. Rabbi Susan Stone graduated from Stuyvesant High School, New York, New York, from Vassar College and from Hebrew Union College, New York. She also serves as Director of Spiriual Care at Hillcrest Cleveland Clinic Hospital. Our Cantor, Dr. Stanley Workman Jr., is also the Artistic Director at Shawnee State University. Beneh Abraham has a rich heritage of contributions and Jewish faith serving the Portsmouth community and the surrounding 60 mile radius of Portsmouth, Ohio.
